Blackburn Rovers have just completed the signing of Chilean midfielder Carlos Villanueva on a one-year loan deal with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of one year.

The 22 year old has been snapped from Chilean club Audax Italiano under the noses of a lot of other Premiership clubs. Manchester City were reportedly interested in the Chilean but Blackburn seems to have stolen a march on them.

Villanueva, whose name is a bit of a tongue-twister, has scored just once for the national side in 12 appearances but was voted Chilean player of the year for the past season.

Equador’s Segundo Castillo is also set to sign for Blackburn as their South American contingent swells with Roque SantaCruz leading the brigade.
